For 34 years, I worked in the paper industry — finance, production, sales, the whole nine yards. I knew corrugated cardboard inside and out long before I ever thought about turning it into something kids could play with.
While we were building our home, we'd pick up our daughter from daycare and bring her to the house to review progress, meet contractors, and decide on details. Every day, she'd ask, "How much longer are we going to be here?" Then I unboxed the oven and made her a play fort out of the box. Suddenly, she was entertained. The next day she brought crayons and markers, baby dolls, and a blanket. From that point forward, she was off to her play fort, and we no longer had interruptions.
I had an idea: what if I could make a better fort? One made from heavyweight corrugated, sturdy and strong, but easy to build and take down repeatedly, and that stored neatly and compactly. Instead of a box, what if kids could design and build their own forts and create their own adventures?
That idea became Kidz Forts.

Every Kidz Forts kit is made with heavyweight corrugated panels and our patented twist-lock connectors — no tape, no glue, no collapsing walls. Kids can build a fortress, take it down, and build something totally different five minutes later. It's open-ended play that grows with their imagination, whether they're building a Hobie hideout, a Commando base, or going full Frosted winter castle.
Why It Matters to Us
Don't get me wrong. Technology and screens are great — in moderation. My wife and I believe kids need more hands-on, screen-free play — the kind where kids use their own imagination, rather than watching TV, or playing video games on their tablets or devices. Where kids can build something real by themselves, with their siblings, friends, or even their parents. Our kits are designed for ages 3 and up, simple enough for little hands but sturdy enough to survive years of serious fort business.
